RIP, Mr. Robert B. Sherman
A random blog where I'll be posting my 'songs of the day' that I started on Facebook, & also other links, facts, or thoughts concerning other links, facts, or thoughts. (P.S. If I'm wrong about something in terms of the brief 'bios' on here, you can correct me if you wish. I try my best to get truthful info & facts from the sources I can find...)

some news...
Two things that I want to quickly post - the first about something that's been released; the second about something to be released... & the third is just a reminder.
1) Joel Larmer released his first single [ever] just today. Locally & very much homegrown talent has brought him to this point; & after recording his songs in the studio just a couple months ago, he's starting to get his name out more & more. Most recently, he's been doing some touring with another local (but well-known) band by the name of ...to tell.
Check out the new single here, & watch for more awesome stuff to come!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsZ9Y3_0J0k
2) & as mentioned, something to be released: some news concerning Starflyer 59... not a clue what, but something tomorrow... possibly on their Twitter... Stay tuned...
3) Just a reminder you can still subscribe to the somewhat daily 'songs of the day' on my Facebook page.
That is all.
& have a good night.

I Wanna Dance With Somebody - by Whitney Houston (R.I.P)
Probably the song I most remember by her...
Sadly, today, it was discovered that Whitney Houston had passed away in a Beverly Hills hotel. Details are yet unknown, but what is known is that she will be missed, but always remember in her music & more.
This one's for her.

Some different music news things...
Well, I thought I'd post some news as I haven't done that for a while & I missed posting a song tonight...
That said:
Tooth & Nail Records announced just today their latest addition to their family, Abandoned Pools. I haven't heard much, but I think someone may be onto something by describing the sound as a slight hybrid of Sainthood Reps vs. Swimming With Dolphins (both current T&N acts), with reminders of The Postal Service vs. Starflyer 59, & some Joy Electric (& yes, I did take these off of http://www.indievisionmusic.com/2012/01/30/tooth-nail-signs-abandoned-pools-ex-the-eels/ - but I do recognize most of the music to some extent, so I can back up the claims ;)
Also: as always, there's some cool FREE (or by tip if you wish) music on NoiseTrade, & just today, Owl City/Adam Young put up a sampler for you if you wish...
& also as always, there's some good &/or anticipated/delivering releases that have come out lately including Blessed By A Broken Heart's "Feel the Power"[T&N; 2012], David Crowder*Band's "Give Us Rest (A Requiem Mass in C Major [The Happiest of All Keys])"[SixSteps; 2012], & Tidewater's "The Beautiful Life EP"[ROXR; 2012].
Enjoy & take care.
P.S. If you want a bit of a read, check out one of my friend's blogs - her latest concerning something called marriage & what precedes it.

Spark - by The City Harmonic (in honour of Martin Luther King day)
This song crossed my mind today as I was seeing these posts about MLK, & thought I should share it...
That said, this song is from The City Harmonic's newest album "I Have a Dream (It Feels Like Home)" - the title of course inspired from the powerful speech made by Martin Luther King Jr. himself.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfcDVIjGQQg (<-- this song also incorporates some of the speech).
Also, as a side note, TCH made an announcement concerning their bassist Eric Fusilier - he was recently diagnosed with ALL: Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. You can read more about the situation here; but otherwise: keep him & his family in your prayers...
Just a spark...

To finish 2011 (& look ahead to 2012)...
As with many top lists, there can often be found an 'honourable mention' tidbit. Such is the case with mine.
So, down to it:
Honourable Mentions of 2011 (mostly just because I wanted to list 11, so I can't fit everything onto there...) :
- "Swings & Cloves" - by Mosquito Fleet (ind; 01/11) (<--listen on linked Bandcamp page)
- "Covers EP" - This Beautiful Republic (ind; 03/09) (Oasis' "Wonderwall" as covered by TBR)
- "Streamstory" - by Jesse Sprinkle (ind; 02/25) ("Color of the First Light")
- 's/t' - by Holding Onto Hope (Come&Live; 10/04) ("Forsaken: Take 1") (free album from Come&Live Records)
- "Bryce Avary, His Instruments, Your Voices" - by The Rocket Summer (ind; 05/24) (free album from his website)
Sadly, we only have roughly 8,765.81 hours in a year, & considering that we sleep for several hundred (I'm going to suggest perhaps 2,500) hours, plus all the other times we're doing something where we are not able to listen to music, plus the fact that there's so much stuff that's often on repeat, there isn't all that much time in the end to catch everything. Over the past year, there's been a number of releases that I've heard are good, or amazing, or I'm just simply curious about. That said, here's a few (11, as it turns out) that I'd like to catch up on...
"Vice Verses" - by Switchfoot; "Patterns" - by Run Kid Run;
"Guide to an Escape" - by Rue Royale; "Ad Astra Per Aspera" - by Abandon Kansas;
's/t' - Bon Iver; "The Reckoning" - by NEEDTOBREATHE;
"Until We Have Faces" - by Red; "Wrath" - by Preson Phillips;
"You're All Going to Die" - by Grave Robber; "Odd Souls" - by Mutemath;
"The Keys to Open Gates" - by Mattie Montgomery
(there are others too, but these are some of the more noted ones &/or I forget the some of the others I was interested in throughout the past 379 days [379 in compensation for the fact that it's now Jan. 14th)
All this said & done, though, I can't not look ahead & be unenthusiastic about what I hope to hear in the next year...
"Mean What You Say" - by Sent By Ravens (Tooth & Nail; 02/28) ("Learn By the Night")
"The End is Where We Begin" - by Thousand Foot Krutch (ind.; sometime March 2012) ("War of Change")
"Now" - by Fireflight (Flicker; 03/06) ("Stay Close")
[untitled] - by Project 86 (ind.; sometime June)
[untitled] - by tobyMac (Forefront; late 2012)
[untitled] - by Anberlin (Universal; ??)
[untitled] - by Anchor & Braille (ind.; ??)
[untitled] - by Capital Lights (Tooth & Nail; ??)
[untitled] - by House of Heroes (Gotee; ??)
"The Peace of Wild Things" - by Paper Route (Universal Motown; ??) ("Better Life"; "Better Life" live)
[untitled] - by Poema (Tooth & Nail; ??)
"Cancer" - by Showbread (Come&Live; ??)
[untitled] - by The Rocket Summer (??; ??)
&, as announced yesterday:
[untitled] - by Falling Up (ind; ??)
(dates are of course subject to change; & I've just filled this out to the best of my ability; feel free to notify me otherwise).
But for now: enjoy.

...to tell EP announcement
Hey, so I didn't get to post a song tonight, but while I sit here & wait for a project to print (& re-print 'cause I just screwed up the order), I figured I should tell you about To Tell's announcement.
It was announced just earlier today that they are going to be releasing over the next bit of time a few new tour dates in support of their new & upcoming EP "Away from Everything" which was recorded & produced by Joel Bruyere (bassist for Thousand Foot Krutch; also has done his own awesome side project, the drawing room).
The first date they announced is the CD release party, which will be held January 27th, 2012 in their hometown at London Music Hall. Check it out if you're around.
(& here's the video announcement itself)

find Five Iron Frenzy's blue comb!
I know it sounds slightly weird, but Five Iron Frenzy has launched a search to find a blue comb here.
If you find it, you get a code which will allow you access to a website at 12pm MST on Nov. 16th (2011).
Trust me: it is possible. & you do get a code... I did! (it's not as hard as you think...)
Have fun!

*Major news
(* ^ pun intended)...(ok, well, I know it was lame, & it was funnier in my head, but nonetheless) :P
EMI was just bought out earlier today by fellow competitors Universal & Sony labels
http://www.aux.tv/2011/11/emi-bought-by-sony-and-universal-reducing-the-music-market-to-three-major-labels/
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/international-news/european/music-powerhouse-emi-split-and-sold-for-41-billion/article2233431/
Kinda curious how this next run in the music industry is gonna change (or not???)

There are less than 20 days until Five Iron Frenzy... does something. Nobody seems quite sure yet. But there's less than 20 days remaining (& the countdown's been going on for a couple months now, sssoooooo.....)... http://FiveIronFrenzy.com/ ... yeah.. Get excited!
~~~
As I'm sure you're aware: there's quite a number of exciting things happening on 11/11/11. Including, but not limited to, Skryim (as a couple of my friends have made quite clear), the official version of Minecraft, & a couple friends' marriage.
But aside from that, there is also Our Heart's Hero's Christmas EP, which you can get for FREE if you follow them on their Twitter.
Wavorly's new EP is also being released that day. Keep an eye out!
(you can also download a new song from both of those EP's; links are on their Facebook pages...)
Daylight - by Run Kid Run (& additional note)
To be efficient: I'm putting this all in one post (but, it's not like I'm saying much anyways). Sorry for not being able to keep up - school & other commitments've been keeping me busy, plus 2 & 5 am studio times, etc. etc. But, long story short: I've been busy. Short story continued: I do plan to keep this going as best I can, but for now: it may occasionally be scarce (as you may have noticed). But for now - I give you this:
One of Run Kid Run's new songs from their upcoming album "Patterns", to be released Nov. 15th, 2011. Needless to say, I'm excited & can't wait to get my hands on it... (& "Love at the Core" for that matter - I have yet to see one [that is, a physical CD] around... but, never fear - I'll find one somewhere...)
2nd: Only until FRIDAY - Mosquito Fleet has made all their music available for FREE. But again, only until this Friday, Sept. 30th, 2011. Here's what they posted on Facebook a few hours ago:
"
After taking most of the summer off from playing to adjust to some new life transitions for each of us, we are so excited to be playing in Marion, IN this Friday!...
In light of that, we are giving ALL of our music away for free at http://mosquitofleet.bandcamp.com/ until the show on Friday.
Help us get our music out to anyone who doesn't have it! Post the link on your friends' walls, tweet it, email it, whatever!
We love you guys and can't wait to see you this Friday
"
(Stop.) ;)
So, you read the message - go get it! Their latest EP "Swings & Cloves" contains what may be my favourite rendition of "Come Thou Fount of Ev'ry Blessing" ever.
Enjoy!
Help us get our music out to anyone who doesn't have it! Post the link on your friends' walls, tweet it, email it, whatever!
We love you guys and can't wait to see you this Friday
