I Love a Rainy Night - by Eddie Rabbitt

I figured it was appropriate for tonight.
Edward Thomas "Eddie" Rabbitt was born Nov. 27, 1941, in Brooklyn, NY.  He dropped out of school when he was 16, and after a number of singles with 20th Century Records, he moved to Nashville in '68 when he was 27; & though it took a few years to get his music career going, "he paid the rent through songwriting, authoring Elvis Presley's 'Kentucky Rain' [1970] and Ronnie Milsap's 'Pure Love' [1974]".  He signed with Elektra Records (Bruno Mars, Harry Chapin, The Doors, Grandmaster Flash, & so on…) in '75, & followed the signing with a number of hits including "Forgive and Forget" [1975] and "Drinkin' My Baby (Off My Mind)" [1976].  Rabbitt has released more than a dozen studio albums over the course of his career - which, by the way, was broken up by a three year hiatus after his son passed away of a fatal liver disease in 1985.  On May 7th, 1998, Eddie Rabbitt died from lung cancer in Nashville; he was 56.  This song is from his LP "Horizon", released in 1980.

Patience - by Abandoning Sunday

[Relatively] new song.  New video.  <-- Enjoy.
Abandoning Sunday is from DeLand, FL.  They began in Dec. 2007, started by singer/guitarist Michael Thomas - & though it started out as 'Abandoning Sunday is Michael Thomas', it is now officially a 'band' (check out http://abandoningsunday.blogspot.com/ for such details…).  The other members are guitarist John Ostermann, & drummer [Aaron] Casey Roth (who, as it appears, is roughly my age as he is from a high school class of 2010 - which I think is kinda cool! lol).  They released a set of demos (called "Demos and Such") in May 2010, followed by "Forgive (Acoustic EP)" in Sept. that same year.  & on March 29th, 2011, they released their newest single "Patience".  They started working on a new album just last month [April]; & in addition, they were the Indie Rock Winner in April on OurStage.com as well as in the Top 40 in Indie Rock [May 2011] & Top 40 in Acoustic [April 2011] on OurStage.  This song, as mentioned, was their single released in March.
The music video was released just yesterday, too (May 27th)

Also, they're currently in the run (with a few other awesome bands, too!) for this song & "Really, I'm Fine" to be in the movie "Renee" - you can check out some details on the movie here:
http://www.reneethemovie.com/ (& here: www.reneethemovie.com/soundtrack for details on the contest which ends in 2 days…)(but FYI: the .com/soundtrack page seems to be fussy… just so you know…)

It's almost kinda stupid...

It's almost kinda stupid how fast time goes at times.
Just to let you know (for the heck of it?) - :
the songs of the days may be somewhat sporadic over the next while as things are coming up in the evenings... So: for anyone who checks in regularly (that means you too, Mom!) - : I'm not giving up or meaning to slack off - I'm developing some sort of life (woohoo!!), & after a certain point in the evening (when I'm home/free), I think about bed before this...

Also, for the sake of anticipation - I do plan on putting up another post unrelated to the songs/bands...'

Just so you know....

Blue Ghost - by Falling Up

No amount of networking cables & internet could allow my excitement to come through upon discovering that they released this new song on their Facebook yesterday.
Falling Up is from Portland, Oregon.  Fronted by Jessy Ribordy, they were a 6-piece* alt-rock band for their first albums/release: "Crashings" [Feb. 24th, 2004].  5 were listed** for their follow up: "Dawn Escapes" [2005], then 6 again*** for their remix album "Exit Lights" [2006].  There was one more release "Captiva" in 2007 (which had 5 listed****) before their greatest hits album ("Discover the Trees Again").  The now 3-piece band***** (that The Dear Hunter's Casey Crescenzo produced and was heavily involved with) "Fangs" on March 24th, 2009.  But they announced their breakup in Jan. 2010, only to follow that with the announcement of new music in Oct. the same year.  A KickStarter follwed, which fans raised enough money for - & they started recording in Feb. 2011.  This song was posted on their Facebook page yesterday (May 25th); it's from the new album "Your Sparkling Death Cometh", to be released June 28th, 2011.  Needless to say, I'm quite excited.

Noisetrade.com...

So: NoiseTrade.com just got their new site up & running - check it out if you haven't already!
It's an awesome site that offers completely free & completely legal music for you to download.  It features many, many bands (any band who wants can join & put something up...) whether they're already in the industry or just an indie starting off...  It's a great way to find up & coming acts & other novelty items...

You Gotta Believe - by The Rocket Summer

Awesomely poppy & even more catchy.
TRS is the music project of Bryce Avary - born Dec. 31st, 1982.  His base of operations is Fort Worth, TX.  His music career started when he was 16 - he independently released "The Rocket Summer EP" in 2000, & was signed to Militia Group for the following LP, "Calendar Days" [Feb. 8th, 2003].  The name came from Ray Bradbury's 1950 "Martian Chronicles" - a short story which one of the chapters is named "Rocket Summer".  A successful tour in the U.S. & Japan came in support of his next LP "Hello, Good Friend" [May 17th, 2005], after which he was signed - after a couple of other EP's including "The Early Years EP" [2006](a re-release of his self-titled EP) - to Island/Def Jam Records.  He's since released 2 LP's - "Do You Feel" [2007] & "Of Men and Angels" [2010] - & 3 EP's.  The latest, just released today [May 24th, 2011]: "Bryce Avary, His Instruments, and Your Voices"; it's an acoustic EP with him on acoustic guitar and piano, & the audiences from a couple of live shows.  This song is from "Of Men and Angels" (released Feb. 23rd, 2010).
The music video features fans who submitted their videos of them playing to, singing to, & dancing to the song.

&, something you should definitely do: download "Bryce Avary, His Instruments, and Your Voices" for FREE:
(all you need is an e-mail address & to let him/them know your country, province/state, & gender - do it!!!)

Paint the Stars - by Castle Lights

(you should take a look at Camp America's remix, too).
Castle Lights (formerly LightParade) is from Houston, TX.  It started as a solo project in 2007 for Jeremiah Wood shortly after he left Leeland in 2006.  However, after working with Tyler Susuras (both of them on guitars & vocals) in the studio, Castle Lights became a band, soon after enlisting bassist (& bg vocalist) Aaron Eaves (formerly of The Blinding).  They released their debut EP "Paint the Stars" in fall 2010.  & as some fun trivia: singer Stephen Christian of Anberlin posted on his Twitter (on Feb. 26th, 2010) "there is a great band called @lightparade that I was introduced to yesterday, everyone needs to follow them. there [sic] going to be huge!".  This song is from the "Paint the Stars" EP.

& here's the acoustic version they did for 'SerialBox Presents':
(& at that, SerialBoxpresents.com will have a 3 song session posted sometime soon… - definitely something to keep an eye out for…)

& here's where you can download this song, "Saint Era", & 2 respective remixes by Camp America for FREE:

Clocks and Timepieces - by Search the City (& piano version by Evil Us)

Heard some sad news today from Evil Us  - Josh posted a message & link about his cousin's 9 year old daughter that was killed yesterday in a hunting accident (I'll post the news link below).
Search the City is based out of Detroit, MI.  The name came as a result of them (guitarists Alex Sheldon & James (Jim) Czech, & drummer Adam McMillion) & "seeking out other musicians to complete their final lineup".  "'They named it that because they were looking for all of the different members, all over different cities,' [singer Josh] Frost explains. 'That meant all over Michigan.  And because I was living in Florida at the time, they just called it Search the City'".  They released their debut EP "Ghosts" in 2006, signed with Tooth & Nail Records, then released their LP "A Fire So Big the Heavens Can See It" on April 1st, 2008.  StC announced their break up on MySpace on May 13th, 2009 (see previous post about them for details), but have since announced (just this a couple months ago, if that) the coming of a new album (still on T&N Records) for early next year, if not sooner.  This song is from "A Fire So Big the Heavens Can See It".
(I'm guessing this one's a demo as it's different from the studio version I have on the CD..)

the news story:

& here's the piano version that Evil Us (which StC singer Josh Frost is part of) did of the song, which you can download for free, if you wish; or, you can purchase the song - all proceeds will go to the family of the victim of the tragic accident…

Gutter - Paper Route

Heard this song on CSI:NY - & I knew I should post this because I hadn't before & it's awesome.
Paper Route hails from Nashville, TN.  The music that came to be Paper Route started in Chad Howat's (bass, piano, programming…) bedroom, where he would sleep in the top bunk & make music in the bottom bunk (if I remember reading correctly - it was some time ago when they had that part in their bio…).  J.T. Daly (vocals, keys, percussion) was the next in the scene, followed by Andy Smith (vocals, guitars, harmonica), & eventually Gavin McDonald (drums).  The first 3 members (who were all originally from For All the Drifters - before they disbanded) released a self-titled EP on Aug. 29th, 2006 through Drama Club Records.  2 more EP's followed, then their major label release "Absence" came on April 28th, 2009 on Universal Motown.  They are now currently working on a new album, & just today, they posted on their Twitter page that they just recorded the choir.  This song is from "Absence".
the music video (to which, at some point, they posted a 'letter' of sorts about how the video came to be - mostly because the people who were originally funding it pulled out [I forget if it was the label or someone else....... so don't quote me!  lol])

I Wonder - by The City Harmonic

I cannot get enough of their EP… & I don't think I ever will!
TCH is a 4-piece band from Hamilton, On.  They started TCH in 2009 & were signed to Kingsway Music (Tim Hughes, Delirious?, Matt Redman, Benton Brown, Rend Collective Experiment,…) on which they released their first EP simply titled "Introducing The City Harmonic" on Nov. 23rd, 2010.  & just as a bit of random background on some of the members: Eric Fusilier (bass; bg vocals) is originally from Texas; he moved to Canada in 1999.  He & Elias Dummer (vocals; piano) studied bass together at school.  Aaron Powell (guitars; bg vocals) joined Elias' worship band in 2003 as a keyboardist (to which, Aaron & Elias apparently met each other at a punk show in 1998, & they made a secret hand shake, to which, when Eric was taught it, he "change[d] [the] hand shake to a 2 min. condensed version").  The three of them won an award (I can't find what) in another band in 2008.  & it was in 2000 when Josh Vanderlaan (drums) purchased his first drum kit.  I believe there is an LP to be expected for later this year.  This song is from "Introducing The City Harmonic".
I can't actually find the whole song anywhere, so I'll post the samples that come on Amazon & iTunes (both, as Amazon has more of the verse, & iTunes more of the chorus)
OR: you could just simply buy the EP because it is that amazing.  They do have hard copies available in a variety of stores, too (not just online!).

& for kicks, here's the song that got me hooked on them:

On a separate note...

(FYI: this post is actually a few days old - Blogspot moved it to today after I corrected the incorrectly labeled labels...)
3 things:
1st: TFK (Thousand Foot Krutch) released some sick material from their upcoming "Live at the Masquerade" live DVD:
https://www.facebook.com/thousandfootkrutch (go to their 'New Album Video' page to see the video as it is an unlisted video to YouTube...)
2nd: Echoes the Fall released their newsletter the other day - one of the things I'm excited to hear about from it is that they have Jasen Rauch lined up to produce their next album.  Jasen Rauch of course being former guitarist from Red.
3rd: I know summer's not even here yet, but do you know the feeling of accomplishment that comes after doing some work - I think that's what I'll be feeling.  Just... felt like puttin' that out there... lol (trying to kinda use this blog as a, you know, [typical] blog.
4th: Ocean is Theory released their new single from their upcoming EP "Future Fears".  You can download it from their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/oceanistheory (under 'Free Song')

Enjoy!

Hammers & Anvils - by I Am Empire

I saw the word "anvil" in an article today... I thought of this song.
I Am Empire is from San Jose, CA.  The 5 piece band started in 2008 &, as their bio reads, "had no trouble igniting the local scene… including dates alongside Flyleaf, Sublime, Deftones, Silversun Pickups, Thursday, Four Year Strong, and The Wedding, a pair of charting singles ("You're a Fake" & "The Elevator"), plus additional acclaim from Alternative Press, AOL's Spinner.com and San Fransisco's LIVE 105 radio station".  The name 'I Am Empire' comes as a moniker that is "basically a battle cry to be yourself and never feel pressured towards conformity".  They released their self-titled debut LP on April 13th, 2009.  They signed on to Tooth & Nail Records a short while after & released the next LP "Kings" on January 25th, 2011.  This song (& video, which was released in late April) is from "Kings".

& I have some bad news...

The Upper Room Bookstore (well, music store to me) in London, On. sent out an e-mail earlier today announcing that they will be closing for good the end of June, this year.  Just thought I'd let you know in case you know about it...
This is one of the reasons why I don't like how seemingly everything's going digital (as I myself am more about holding an actual physical product - the point proven by the number of CD's I have... lol)

Poor Man - by Plus One

From another one of the CD's I picked up at Overflow during this past weekend…. (aka, one of the CD's I'm absolutely loving right now!).
Plus One was based in TN.  The [formerly] boy-band released their debut album "The Promise" on May 23rd, 2000 on Atlantic Records.  In the same year, Pokémon: The Movie 2000 was released (in the US; it was released in '99 in Japan), & they had their song "With All Your Heart" featured on the soundtrack.  Their sophomore release "Obvious" hit the streets on Feb. 26th, 2002, & they followed that with "Christmas" (a Christmas album…) in Oct. that year.  However, 2 of their members left the band, leaving 3 remaining who went on to release their third & final album as Plus One.  "Exodus" was released Nov. 18th, 2003 on Inpop Records (Superchic[k], Newsboys); they followed the release with the "Exodus '04" tour before quietly parting ways.  This song was from "Exodus" (to which, this album is the reason why I say "formerly boy band").

& here's a video they released in Aug. 2010 about where they went after they broke up..:

Something I learned this weekend...

So, as mentioned in my last post, Overflow was awesome/epic/rocked/etc./etc.  For those who read this & don't know what Overflow is:
it's a large youth conference in South-Western Ontario; it features one keynote speaker plus others & a number of music acts, & there's also activities (e.g. sports, bouncy castles/games, & more).  This year, we had Rich Wilkerson Jr. speak (his uncle was David Wilkerson - founder of Times Square Church in NY & the addiction recovery program Teen Challenge; he passed away just a couple weeks ago, if you weren't aware...).  The big music act that was there this year was The Almost (which I'm actually listening to their CD "Monster Monster" right now... just... as some trivia, I guess? lol).  I also want to note that To Tell, The Light Division, & a couple of other smaller acts were there (including Alisha Mann, to which I wanted to go see her concert, but didn't get back in time to see that one...).  (for more details, you can go to: http://www.overflowyouth.com/)
One of the other bands that I want to make note of as well, was ROYAL.  Awesome, awesome music.  Watch for their new CD out in September (& you can follow them on Twitter @ http://twitter.com/#!/theroyalROYAL ; or Tumblr @ http://theroyalroyal.tumblr.com/)
& so, at that, the main thing that I wanted to bring to attention was simply one of the things that Rich spoke of.  It's something I know I'm taking with me, & a number of my friends, & I'm sure many many more, too.  This 'thing' that he spoke of, was  *insert drum roll here*  :

Time is Running Out (Where to Start) - by High Flight Society

Picked up their self-titled debut this weekend (which, by the way, was amazing - Overflow rocked!)... & I must say, I do love it.  lol
HFS was formed in 2001 & is 2 brothers (Michael & John Packer - guitar & bass, respectively) and 2 others (Jason Wilkes & Scotty Lockridge - voc's & drums, respectively) based out of Cedartown, GA.  "From Far Above Somewhere EP" was out in 2006 on Selectric Records & they followed that with their self-titled debut LP June 5th, 2007 on RKT Music.  Success ensued with their singles "Sweet Redeemer", "Declaration", & "Time is Running Out", & hence, much touring also ensued (including on the 2007 "Southern Hospitality Tour" headed by Disciple with Spoken, The Wedding, Wavorly & HFS); but RKT pulled out/"shut its doors" shortly after, &, as their bio reads, "partially [extinguished] the flame of what was a promising career" - 'partially' being the operative word.  June 12th, 2009 saw the release of their "Par Avion" EP.  From Dec. 2010 through the end of Jan. 2011, they raised money through Kickstarter to record their up & coming EP.  In addition, they posted a 'studio sneak peak' video on YouTube (link below) in late April this year.  This song is from their self-titled LP.

P.S. Sorry for missing the past couple days...  Like I mentioned, Overflow 2011 (in Waterloo, On.) was awesome!

Monster Monster - by The Almost

(This is for yesterday, as blogspot.com wouldn't let me on to edit anything as they had some maintenance stuff to do...)
I must say, I'm quite excited to be seeing them this weekend…  :D
The Almost is based out of Tampa, FL.  Fronted by singer/guitarist Aaron Gillespie (the former drummer for Underoath), they formed in 2005, and released their debut LP "Southern Weather" (produced by Aaron Sprinkle) on Tooth & Nail Records on April 3rd, 2007.  The album debuted at 39 on Billboard's Top 200 & spent 20 weeks on the chart.  2 years and 2 EP's later ("No Gift to Bring" [2008], a Christmas EP, & "Monster" [2009]), they released "Monster Monster" on Nov. 3rd, 2009.  & as some fun trivia: in 2009, Gillespie hosted The Almost Culinary Contest, for which "the lucky contestant will be flown to the Capitol Tower in Los Angeles to cook the winning recipe on-camera with Aaron November 10th [2009]".  This song is from "Monster Monster".

Blue Collar Man (Long Nights) - by Styx

I think I can start to relate to the song a bit more compared to even 2 weeks ago... lol
Styx is from Chicago, IL.  They started in 1961 as The Tradewinds, & eventually switched the name (a couple times before, but the major one -) to 'Styx' when they signed to Wooden Nickel Records.  Their self-titled debut came in 1972, & was followed by 3 more LP's before they got nationally noticed with their song "Lady", which was originally released on their 2nd album "Styx II" (a Chicago station started playing it in '74, & it eventually resulted with their album "Styx II" being certified 'gold').  Styx then signed on with A&M for their 5th LP "Equinox". 4 more albums came after before their triple platinum concept album "Paradise Theater", released Jan. 19th, 1981.  "Caught in the Act" was their final [& live] album to be released before they went on a hiatus before coming back together in 1989 ("Edge of the Century" came in 1990; followed by 3 more LP's - the latest "Big Bang Theory", released in 2005).  Lineup changes came in the following number of years, but they are still touring (& for that matter, just last month they announced they were going on tour with Yes - the tour kicks off on July 4th).  This song is from their album "Pieces of Eight"; released Sept. 1st, 1978.

Surrounded - by Tidewater

For fans of The Rocket Summer, & OneRepublic.
Tidewater is Brett Allen's solo project.  Based out of St. Louis, MO, he released an EP "The Way That I Want You" (which features his cover of Beyoncé's "Halo") on March 8th, 2011 followed by his latest LP "The Seas We Sail" on April 12, 2011 on the ROXR label (though, it was released independently on August 17th, 2010).  "The Seas We Sail" was recorded (with producer Kevin Gales - Fiona Apple, Sarah McLachlan, Blind Witness) while he was majoring in film at Baylor University (Waco, TX).  The name 'Tidewater' is a moniker for part of the street name where Allen grew up.  This song is from "The Seas We Sail".

Beyond the Earth - by Jesse Sprinkle

Awesome song from an awesome album... with an awesome story & purpose......
Jesse Sprinkle is from Seattle, WA - he started his musical career at the age of 14 when he became the drummer for Poor Old Lu.  After POL broke up, he was drumming for multiple bands (at various times) including Starflyer 59, Denison Witmer, Michael Knott (& he also drummed for Brooke Barrettsmith's album [the former contestant of American Idol… now in the band Vialyne]).  He was also the first drummer for Demon Hunter (until before their 3rd album, "The Triptych"); then shortly after, he became the drummer for Dead Poetic & was with them until they went on a hiatus.  Aside from his drumming with other bands, he's also released 5 solo albums & a number of other side; & aside from his music career, he has been making trips to Uganda helping with the Ugandan Water Project, & other missions including work with orphans & rebuilding projects.  He now resides in East Avon, NY & co-operates Bluebrick Recordings.  His latest solo project, "Streamstory", was released just this past March & has an awesome story & purpose behind it (watch the YouTube video to see what I mean…).  This song is from "Streamstory".
(I cannot find the entire song on the internet, but you can hear the 1:30 long clip on iTunes:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/streamstory/id428315711 )

& here's the mentioned video about what's behind the project, plus a clip of "Color of the First Light":

I'd highly recommend the album - not only is it good music, but also for some good causes…  Check it out!

F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X. - by The Fall of Troy

Haven't heard this one in a while... lol
The Fall of Troy formed in 2002 & was from Mukilteo, WA.  They started as The 30 Years War but changed their name after a member left (due to schooling & such time constraints as they were still in high school at this time).  In May of the next year, they released their first LP (self-titled) as The Fall of Troy.  3 years later, after being signed to Equal Vision Records, they followed with the LP "Doppelgänger" (released August 16th, 2005) - this album contained this song which was featured as a bonus unlockable song on Guitar Hero 3.  The year after, they re-released their self-titled debut LP.  This was all followed by an LP ("Manipulator"), EP ("Phantom on the Horizon"), then a final LP: "In the Unlikely Event", all in consecutive years (starting in 2007).  It was 2010 when they announced that they were disbanding & they did a final tour in the spring.  However, they are still in the music industry, & former lead singer Thomas Erak has been promoting his new[-ish] band Just Like Vinyl on The Fall of Troy's various social networking pages.  As mentioned, this song was from "Doppelgänger".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBwzyZEZlI4

(the "R.E.M.I.X." part comes because it's... well, pretty much a remix of the original: "F.C.P.S.I.T.S.G.E.P.G.E.P.G.E.P."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdvacK6Cmxo
& it's from their self-titled album.

& for the heck of it: here's the song on 'expert' level on GH3 (not a perfect run, but oh well… lol):

Need You Now - by Lady Antebellum

This song came on the radio today... then it stayed on in my head.
Lady A is based out of Nashville (like every other country acts of course! lol), TN.  They started in 2006 when Charles Kelly & Dave Haywood got together with Hillary Scott (who is - as I just found out - the daughter of Linda Davis).  Their self-titled debut album was released shortly after (they had signed to Capitol Records by then) & had their single "Love Don't Live Here" (released in Sept. of '07) debut at #1.  The album was produced by Paul Worley who has also produced for the Dixie Chicks, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Martina McBride, & [of course] more.  Much touring & other works ensued, including opening for McBride's 'Waking Up Laughing Tour' in 2008; & contributing "I Was Here" to the 'AT&T Team USA Soundtrack' for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.  January 26th, 2010 was the day their sophomore album "Need You Now" hit the streets; the title single was released in August of the previous year & easily hit #1 in Billboard Hot Country Songs - it also was nominated for & won multiple awards at multiple ceremonies (including 'Song of the Year' & 'Best Country Song' at the Grammys in 2011; 'Song of the Year' at the Academy of Country Music in 2010; 'Single of the Year' & 'Single by a Duo/Group' at the American Country Awards; & more!).  On May 2nd, 2011, they released their latest single "Just a Kiss" from their upcoming album.  This song is from "Need You Now".

The Fear Brought Us Here - by Dorean Lives

Tim's song of the day: The Fear Brought Us [Here] - by Dorean Lives.
Dorean Lives is from Birmingham, AL & they started in 2005. Comprised originally of Another Old Ending's Travis Hopkins & Adam Wesley's; & Logan Freeman (former guitarist for I Am Terrified - they've broken up now...). As their PureVolume page states: "The band named after Jessica Howard, Logan's first love who died and taught him the wonders of living in the process, began with an emotional start" (go to: http://www.purevolume.com/doreanlives
to read the whole story...). They released/posted a 4 song demo in 2006 on MySpace & have since grown. There's been some lineup changes, but they're currently practicing & getting management, etc. They also posted the following on their Facebook page just today: "This junk is getting real". This song was released just this year, I believe (just as a single).
